Wen Ning was extremely nervous as he approached Cloud Recesses. He had arranged to meet with the Sect Leader to discuss an important proposal that he had recently recieved from the Emperor himself. The proposal had caught him off guard and something he didn't think was imaginable. It was rare that the Emperor even showed interest in the cultivation world. It was something he couldnt take lightely as it would helpp bridge the two worlds together. Yet, if he was honest with himself Wen Ning simply wanted to hide. He never imagined that becoming a Sect Leader would bring in oppurtuntiies he didn't realize were possible. He needed sound advice and one that wasn't judging or demanding.

This visit would also allow time for him to see his friends and get a small break. Once he arrived, Wen Ning still had time before he was able to talk with the Sect Leader. He chose to seek out WuXian for the time being.

Wen Ning gave a smile. "I believe your pressence will be a big help in things. Since we're on the topic, I do have a book for you. It's written by the Sect leader who started out sect. It'll give you the basic principles and the foundations of the sect. Gusu Lan Sect Leader will teach you more about Qishan later along with everything else."

As she spoke he pulled out his pouch from his arm sleeve and then pulled it out the old beaten down book. He handed the book out to her maid to bring it over to Meili.

"I recently had to reread this myself to freshen up on things and see how much had deviated over the years. Then there was also what worked and what needed to be adjusted due to how things have changed over time."

"I'm glad," she said, pleased that her being there would be something that would help. She tilted her head to the side slightly as he mentioned the book.

"Of course. I will be sure to read it," she said as Zhelan retrieved the book and handed it to her. It had certainly been well used, but she set it down carefully just to the side of her so she didn't accidentally spill anything on it, showing respect for his property. "Quintessence of the Wens"... certainly sounded like it would be important to them so it should be important to her as well.

"It's quite a sizable book. It must be hard to remember everything from it."

"I believe that remembering the key points will be the most favorable way of handling the information. It's not a light read so I advice taking your time with it." Wen Ning suggested.

"Nor are we really expecting you to remember everything right away. I have a few advisors that are always willing to help. I think in the long run as they see you are trying and showing interest that will be enough."

"Of course. I will do my best," she said, knowing she might have to ask her brothers or perhaps even her father for context if something was very political or military-based, but she would work through it. Surely none of them would mind assisting since it was something she should do for joining his family.

She smiled. "I'm glad there are those willing to help. It will be very new to me, but I want to do it right."

"We will get through this together." Wen Ning replied with a comforting smile. "We are both learning and putting together a new beginning for a sect that needs it."

He then moved to help himself to one of the cakes, exicted by the fact that it was one of his favorites.

"I suppose that is true. So, who will be assisting? Are they from your sect or others?"

She was very curious about his world. She'd never left the palace before. Her marriage would be the first time. As such, most people she had met were officials or servants if not her father, the mothers, or her siblings.

"Well, you will have Gusu Lan's sect leader doing a large part of the teaching. His brother and brother n law will also be help in teaching. His sect has been known to provide lessons to each sect for their disciples. Visiting his sect was my first time outside my sect and first time meeting other disciples outside mine.

I'm sure the wives of the other sects may chip in too. My sister and family will also help. Everyoen is excited to share their knowledge." Wen Ning explained.

"Oh, good. I'd like to meet them. It sounds like they will be very helpful considering Gusu Lan educates others."

Maybe that was their thing? They were teachers. Surely, they must do something else since cultivators seemed to be fighters as she understood it.

"I'd like to meet all of them, though I'm sure I will at some point. Will Gusu Lan sect leader's sister be there?"

Yes... she thought "brother-in-law" meant husband of the sect leader's sister.

Wen Ning blushed at her question, realizing where the confusion lay. He figured that she wouldn't be too startled by the explaination once he cleared things up. Not with how she took in his news about Wen Zhuliu.

"My apologies, I wasn't clear. Gusu Lan's sect leader has a younger brother. He married a young man. It had caused a big stir, but for the most part the sects accepted the marriage in the end due to the respect they had for him.

They're actually very close friends of mine and my confidiants. Yet, out of all the sects Gusu Lan is very strict among their ruless and are hard on their discples. However, they are also the most fair to others and prefer to have peaceful outcomes."

"Oh, I see." Well, that certainly explained a few things. "It is good that he found someone that he loves and that they are accepted by Gusu Lan."

She smiled. "It sounds like Gusu Lan is a good ally to have. I suppose there is nothing wrong with strict as long as it is fair."

Wen Ning gave a nod.

"There are a few things I wish to install among our sect that the Gusu Lan follows. I believe in the long run it'll help enforce more discpline and a sense of compassion toward others. What is important that we move away from force and fear.

Perhaps you may be able to suggest a few things that can be improved upon as well."

She nodded her head once in agreement. "Fear and violence may work in the short run, but it is not good practice to live by those principles. People need to know that they are treated fairly and their feelings are being taken into consideration."

She probably knows this, especially since she has a maid willingly standing a little ways behind her, waiting for anything she might need. Truly, there was nothing making the woman stay there and wait except her sense of duty and the fact she served a mistress who also considered her.

"Hmm... I will think about that. Perhaps I will have a better idea once I have spoken with Sect Leader Lan and his family so I understand the history better."

Wen Ning smiled widely pleased with what he was hearing. It was obvious right away the two thought a like and not much was going to have to be said. He couldn't wait till they were officially together.

He had earned Wen Zhuliu's loyalty by his acts of compassion and kindness. He had been the best one to see him as a person and not a weapon. He wasn't someone to be feared or treated as a monster.

Wen Ning had seen the lonenliness that the other dealt with and the desire to fit among his people and belong somewhere. He began to make it his personal goal to try and beriend the other even though he was part of Wen Chao's group.

The compassion and kindness overruled the fear and harsh words that Wen Chao often enforced. In the end it had been his own undoing.

"Yes, I'm sure you will have plenty of ideas for us to discuss and something I look forward to hearing about."
